Nupur 25 was a Heritage Lottery Fund project which took place between 2015 – 2017 to commemorate Nupur Arts Dance Academy’s 25 years’ journey in developing, promoting and supporting South Asian dance in Leicestershire, East Midlands region and beyond.
Young participants were involved in developing their knowledge and understanding about their heritage through researching and archiving Nupur Arts’ 25 year journey through its various workshops and performances. The participants received training in interview skills, story boarding, scriptwriting, web page maintenance and documentary making. This invaluable experience allowed them to contribute to the resources and helped them acquire new transferable media skills. Young volunteers were involved in planning and organising an exhibition on Indian classical and folk dance costumes, jewellery and props used for various performances and production by the company over the 25 years.
Nupur25 the Journey documentary has captured stories of past pupils, tutors, community leaders and festival organisers who have played an important part in the history of Nupur Arts and South Asian dance in Leicester. The 30 minute documentary was launched in March 2017 at New Walk Museum in Leicester.
