Colours of Radiance 16th October 2016
Nupur Arts in collaboration with Sonia Sabri and Cirque Bijou created an innovative, dazzling and breath-taking piece of dance, fused with creative digital technology and a diverse and dramatic soundscape. This project was funded by Leicester City Council and Arts Council England.
Sixteen young emerging dancers were the performers of this 8 minute dance work choreographed by Sonia Sabri, with digital elements created by live entertainment specialists, Cirque Bijou. The work used colourful LED umbrellas to create a kaleidoscope of lights, creating moving ‘Rangoli’ patterns, in a fusion of dance styles.
This visual effect was complemented by an original composition created and designed by Devesh Sodha. This soundtrack was dramatically engaging and captured people’s attention and interest.
Colours of Radiance made its debut on the 16th October 2016 as the main event at the Diwali Light Switch On ceremony in Leicester. Leicester’s Diwali celebrations offered a unique performance opportunity for the artists, as it is one of the biggest outside of India. The piece was designed to be accessible by all ages and cultures while pushing the boundaries of traditional Indian classical dance. With the combination of movement, digital art and music, it transformed the atmosphere of Belgrave and filled the space with mesmerising lights and striking sounds.
